Kenosha - I'm from Kenosha song

No, Virginia, I am not from Kenosha.  My wife is.... and she lets everyone know it. In fact she has this song she sings whenever someone asks where she is from.

The lyrics go something like this:

I'm from Kenosha
Yes, I'm from Kenosha
That great big busy town
Right in the middle of the U. S. A.
Where the New York Harbor meets the San Francisco Bay.
Where the wonderful East meets the wonderful West
It's a great place to be from
I'm singin' so loud of it
Cause I'm so proud of it
Kenosha, my Hometown!

Lyrics by Ward Quinn
Music by George Manupella
First performed by 40 et 8 Clown Band and sung by Troop E 105th Cavalry
Recorded by the John Bunic Orchestra with assistance of WLIP and the Kenosha Federation of Musicians, Local 59

Virginia Manupella, daughter of the composer and also my wife, Cindy's aunt. I thought I would memorialize the clipping from the local Kenosha paper for posterity.

Thoughts on the year to come....

Knowledge is power.

I've posted on this guy before (http://blogs.kqed.org/bayareabites/2013/01/28/kqeds-forum-dr-robert-lustigs-war-on-sugar/) and he really can go to great lengths to demonstrate how sugar is as addictive as anything else and how the body reacts to sugar on a chemical level and really what a downward spiral that eating sugary foods can start. (Highly recommend anyone with an interest listen to this guy at the link above).

Anyhow, with all this knowledge in mind, last year I started drinking coke again (my favorite, I love it more than beer-sad but true). In fact you can see a coke in my new picture at the top of my facebook page (purposely planned for it to be there and put it up so I see it whenever I go on my facebook page). It tastes so good to me and is really quite a treat.

So here it is, putting it out there for you to mock me if I fail: I am quitting sugary soda (again). Instead, I will go back and drink my club soda's and perrier's. Also, I will limit candy and ice cream to one serving a week (should be easy to do even better than that). No fast food (McDonalds/Wendy's/French Fries, etc) (very easy to do this, just stick/have some fruit in the car).

Hopefully I will do more in the exercise department, but I probably won't so I just will keep that separate...

I'm going to peg myself at +/-230 right now. Doctor says I should shoot for 200 (but I just don't see this happening!). I will see where that goes in the months to come.

So either I will be a success or a failure and now you will know it when you see me.

Love and hate

I just got this email, we all get them, regarding Obama, his wife and his family.  I think most of the emails are meant to elecit laughter or comraderie among those who dislike the president. This one however was talkinga bout how ugly and fat his wife was and how ugly and dumb his children looked.

I just thought wow... Someone had to go through the trouble of typing it all out and posting pictures to talk about.  Then they had to send it out to people and then those people had to send it on and it basically becomes one of these emails that your old uncle sends to you.

I just don't see how emails like that can proliferate to the point where some uncle will randomly send it to me. I would have neither the time or inclination (Jack Nicholson from A Few Good Men voice) to read most of these emails let alone send them on to all my friends. I thought, "what could make people do this, day in and day out?"

Then I thought and made up this saying: Hate and time fill an empty cup.

Make a lifetime habit of trying to fill your life with love, whether it is family, kids, friends, work, volunteering, sports, clubbing, shopping or whatever!

Become a busy person with a personal purpose and I suppose one will not become so filled with hate. My thought for the day...
